3rd Grade
Number and Operations is a common core content. It means you will use this acquired knowledge from 3rd grade to high school.
The AZ Department of Education Mathematics Standards expected 3rd grade students to master how to represent fractions using number line they are also expected to master how to compare fraction using benchmark.
Sample Question:

THe Answer:
is b: 3/4
THe explanation:
Lesson to learn: after this tutorial the student must be able to compare fraction using benchmark.
How do you make a benchmark? Benchmark is created by dividing 1 unit with given denominator of the fraction. Then increase the numerator by 1 until the numerator and denominator becomes equal.
2/3 -2 is the the numerator; 3 is the denominator
Example: 1/3 then add 1 to numerator = 1+1 /3 = 2/3
Again add 1 to the numerator until the numerator and denominator becomes equal: 2+1 /3 = 3/3
See more example below on how to create a benchmark fraction

application of lesson learned
- 3/4 > 2/3 the mathematics symbols is read as three fourths is greater than two-thirds. Looking at the length of the line for 3/4, the pink line is greater or longer than the grey line 2/3.
3rd grade students? Do you know how to draw a benchmark(standard) fraction or number line?
Step 1: To draw the 1/2(halves) standard fraction. First draw a straight line. On the left hand side of the line make a tick mark then number it 0 (zero) and again on the right hand side of the line make another tick mark then number it 1 (one).
Step 2: 1/2(halves) standard fraction is actually telling you to divide the line you drawn into half. The picture shown below and copy how to draw the halves(1/2) benchmark.

3rd grade students. It’s time to test your understanding on how to draw a benchmark fraction. Are you ready?
Now draw the third (1/3) benchmark fraction. You can copy the drawing above if you need help. What did you notice about the total length of halves (1/2) benchmark fractions and the thirds (1/3) benchmark fraction? You are right. They have the same total length.
