Neon lights glow through the science of excited atoms. When electricity passes through a sealed tube of neon gas, electrons jump to higher energy levels. As they return, they release energy as vibrant light, creating dazzling displays in cities worldwide.

Medical Coding

This is a post for my experience taking the AHIMA CCS Exam. I will share my preparations and insights about how to pass the exam. I will also share study tips and how to stay updated with your skills.

First of all, I wanted to share my experience as a coder. In the year 2009, I was hired by the company called Capital Area Renal Associates located at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in DC. There I learned how to code for the first time. I do not have any medical background but I am familiar with some medical terminologies. In those years there is no ICD-10 CPT yet. It’s still ICD-9 codes. The program I used is called Medical Manager and Tiny Term which I believed now they changed their names and are not Turbo C based but are window based now. I worked in a blue screen. Where you use function keys all the time. That was 16 yrs ago. Can you believe it?

I learned how to attach the CPT codes into the ICD-9 codes in a claim. I learned how to fill out the CMS-1500 forms for Medicare and Medicaid patients. I still remember the workflow but I need a refresher. No one wants to hire me because I’m fresh from the school. But working at a doctors office as an office manager for almost 6 years counts isn’t it.

I don’t have enough time to update a web page with everything I know but this blog would serve its purpose. I will attach the site here. CCS Exam Reviewer

This is just the preliminary. I also collected flashcards while I am in school. I used QuizLet to build it. Here is a link to my QuizLet page. My username is Adiel_Ortega31.

We can review together and held study sessions through zoom or discord.
